Winona-Ryder

Winona Ryder (born Winona Laura Hornowitz) was born in Winona Minnesota. The parents of her daughter named her after her hometown. The father of her Michel Horowitz and her mother Cynthia Palmer were authors and editors. Ryder's father was born into a Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. Ryder is also half-sister to Sunyata Jubal. Her older sister is Uria. Ryder's family relocated from Mendocino County, California, when she was just seven years old. The town didn't even have electricity. Ryder, who was an avid reader when she was 12, became a bookworm because Ryder was not able to access television. Ryder began to take acting classes in the American Conservatory Theatre in 1983 aged 12. In the year she turned 15years old, Ryder was offered her very first role on screen, in Lucas. Ryder faced bullying in high school. She hoped acting would bring about a change. It didn't turn out. Still she continued pursuing her goals. Beetlejuice the 1988 Tim Burton film, was her debut big breakthrough. Ryder kept playing successful roles in various films. She received nominations for two Academy Awards one for her performance as a character in The Age of Innocence (1993).
