Jazz singer Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award winner was born February 20, 1937, in the city of Chillicothe, Ohio. Her parents were ironworker Olden Wilson and his wife Lillian Ryan who worked as domestic helper. Nancy Wilson was only baby of six. Nancy was heavily influenced in her early years by the music her dad was a fan of and played at his home. When she was just 4years old, Nancy was aware her destiny was to be an artist. Her talents were developed when she sang in the choir of her church. She won a TV-talent show at the age of 15 and started being a regular on the tv series Skyline Melodies while still in high school. At the same age, she began to work in nightclubs. Nancy was just 17 at the time she completed high school. After attending Ohio Central State College - today Central State University - for one semester, Nancy quit to become a professional performer. Her first album was in Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band, which she sang with from 1956 to 1958. Nancy started recording with Dot Records in 1956, as part of the group. Cannonball suggested that she move in New York and go to The Big Town to further her professional career. She was commissioned to perform in The Blue Morocco Night Club located in The Bronx which was where her agent had heard her. Her debut on the recording stage came in 1960 with the single "Girls" after she signed the contract with Capitol Records. Guess Who I Stopped Today. Capitol released 5 Nancy Wilson Albums in 2 years. Her first album was focused on R&B however, under Adderley's influence, she began to embrace jazz. Nancy Wilson's 1962 collaboration with Cannonball Adderley propelled her to the top and, in 1963, she had her debut hit Tell Me the Truth. It led her to perform at the New York's Coconut Grove the premier night club in America that year, and she became a star.
