Nancy Wilson was born 20th February 1937 in Chillicothe. She was the daughter of Olden Wilson, an ironworker and Lillian Ryan (a former housemaid). Nancy was the youngest of six kids. Nancy was heavily influenced in her early years by the music her father was a fan of and played in the home. At just 4 year old, she knew she would be a singer. The talent she developed was cultivated due to her participation in the church choir. When she was 15, she won the talent show on T.V. and started appearing regularly in the Skyline Melodies Tv Show while being in High School. The same year when she was working, she began performing in nightclubs. Nancy was 17 when she finished high school. After enrolling at Ohio Central State College - today Central State University - for one term, Nancy quit to become professional performers. The first album she recorded was in Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band in 1956. They toured from 1956 to 1958. Nancy released her debut recording via Dot Records during the time she spent in this band. Cannonball Adderley advised her to move to New York to further her career, and she moved there to The Big Town in 1959. Within one month, she got a gig singing in The Blue Morocco Night Club located on Boston Road in The Bronx where Adderley's agent heard her, and she was signed.
